Ebru is the art of creating designs with natural paint on top of thickened water, and then placing paper on the surface of the water to absorb the paint design. The resulting Ebru paper is traditionally used as a base to draw flower designs. Recently, some Ebru artists apply abstract designs based on their interpretation of the world. Ebru is one of the traditional arts along with Calligraphy and the art of Illumination. Incredibly beautiful designs have been created over the ages using these three art forms together.
